Anthropology of ‘Dying Peoples’

When asked for evidence for either argument on the topic of another world, we (to a certain extent) must admit to ourselves that there is none. We, on both sides of this rather controversial argument, attach ourselves to 3,000-year-old literature or modern-day scientific theories in attempt to prove that our existence means something…anything. Why must there be a

Nietzsche vs Sartre

Existential Self-Realization: Comparing Nietzsche and Sartre

Nietzsche and Sartre are oftentimes compared as “atheistic existentialists” in the world of philosophy. One similarity between the two would have to be their use of in-depth analyzation for determining the process of life. Nietzsche, in “The Gay Science”, discusses the concept of Amor fati or “love of fate”, which is essentially Nietzsche’s definition of

DeVostating the Education System

Conservatism is at it again with attempts to destroy the public education system. At this point, it is almost certain that Betsy DeVos – the multi-billionaire who has already begun the push for the privatization of education – will become America’s 11th Education Secretary. If you’ve been living under a rock (or perhaps inside a nuclear

Burkini Ban

My Thoughts on The Burkini Ban

With Islamophobia on the rise, “religious freedom” is consistently getting confused for radicalism and extremism. France, the victim of multiple attacks in recent months, has entered a serious stage of paranoia through the ban of the burkini, an extremely conservative “swimsuit” which allows Muslim women to enjoy the beach alongside Westerners.

Church and State

The RNC Has A Religious Message For You

It’s embarrassing to see just how narrow the Republican establishment is making this convention. To narrowly “pray” for officer deaths and not bring up the mass shootings and diverse racial problems in America is already narrow-minded. To narrow down the nation through religious guidance, you’ve labeled your party as “The Party of The Religious”. That’s not how you make America “Great Again”. That’s how you further divide up the people of your nation. You’ve established yourself as nearing theocracy; from Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee to the inclusion of religion in a political party resorting in so-called secular nation.

The Religious Pyramid

Introducing the hierarchy of religious beliefs, as basically defined by Crispian Jago. It’s fairly easy to read, with the most harmless at the bottom and the most harmful at the top. The hierarchy argues that an individual or institution cannot make their way up the pyramid without hitting all the levels below. It can be described, simply, as a ladder. Everyone, as individuals, or every collection of institutions, as a society, starts at the very bottom and will accordingly adjust towards the environment surrounding them and the emotions within them.

The History of America: The First Great Awakening

One of the greatest ironic facts about American history — or perhaps one of the greatest thing about America in general, as some could easily argue — is that none of the colonies became exactly what they had been designed to be. For example, Virginia never made it to the status of “corporate powerhouse.” Pennsylvania never became, much to William Penn’s dismay, a paradise for Quaker ideals. Georgia’s “let the worst of the worst take control of their own colony” plan, for heaven knows why, failed after a few decades. For some, it seemed that every original American colonial idea went downhill before they even had a chance.

AR-15

The AR-15: It’s Time For Gun Reform

The AR-15 is a rifle that is primarily used in a military setting that has trickled it’s way down into civilian usage. Known to the military as the M16 and referee exclusively as an AR-15 in civilian models, the gun — a weapon of mass murder — is located center field in several mass shootings and homicide. The AR-15 is lightweight, gas-operated, magazine-fed, and air-cooled. Quick to move with and easy to take apart, sophisticatedly controlled, and capable of churning out magazine after magazine of bullets, the weapon is something you’d expect to find primarily on the battlefield.

Book Review: A History of the Wife

A History of the Wife is one of the best sociological works containing immense historical attributes and impactful perspectives that stuck with me from beginning to end. From the biblical tales of Adam and Eve to the late 1990’s representation of Hillary Clinton, author Marilyn Yalom drew records of historical significance and combined them with written analysis. A senior scholar at the Institute for Women and Gender at Stanford University (as of 2002), Marilyn Yalom obviously is an expert in the sociological constructs of gender and the passion for understanding the “roles” of husband and wife are blatantly obvious through every page.

Orlando Shooting

What Orlando Proves About Misconceptions of Terrorism

We live in a society that has beat the dead horse in a sense when it comes to the word “terrorism”. Ever since 9/11, our American senses have been short-shocked to imagine religion in the form of Islam to be the only form of “terrorism”. This is a horrendous misconception, with Americans going as far as completely ignoring domestic terrorism right before their very eyes because “the suspect doesn’t look like what we’ve been told a terrorist is.”
