The Postmodernization of Sex, Gender, and HIV

The Postmodernization of Sex and Gender by William Simon is an interesting example on how modern idealism has changed over time. Postmodernism is essentially the modern-day brain-child of Western philosophy which focuses on the “construction of truth” throughout world views, religion, and identity. When understanding the “truth”, one must be willing to accept newly furnished

The History of America: The First Great Awakening

One of the greatest ironic facts about American history — or perhaps one of the greatest thing about America in general, as some could easily argue — is that none of the colonies became exactly what they had been designed to be. For example, Virginia never made it to the status of “corporate powerhouse.” Pennsylvania never became, much to William Penn’s dismay, a paradise for Quaker ideals. Georgia’s “let the worst of the worst take control of their own colony” plan, for heaven knows why, failed after a few decades. For some, it seemed that every original American colonial idea went downhill before they even had a chance.

American Culture

The History of America: The Birth of American Culture

While the new American settlers were busy growing tobacco and building city churches in their new environment, European immigrants who moved to America didn’t cease being or wanting to be Europeans. In fact, they wanted to reshape their new homes and cities into what they had left behind in Europe instead of attempting to create their own new society. American culture didn’t actually exist at this time, as a majority of what could be considered culture in the new world was brought from other countries.

The Meghan Trainor Controversy

Meghan Trainor made national headlines after her controversial music video “All About That Bass” became a viral sensation. But her breakthrough to fame is also the first of a string of hypocrisies and controversy that make up her musical career. From her lyrics to her choreography, Meghan Trainor has made rather vocal enemies on both sides of the social chart.

Artistic Foundations of Theology

From artistic animalism of tribes that had only just recently banded together to the portrayal of what mattered most to man within Neanderthal-esque cave paintings to the theology of Christian works of artistic ingenuity within the Byzantine chapels; many forms of art directly relate to humanity’s primitive ways of seeking faith and meditation.

we want your soul

The Dark Side of Capitalism: ‘We Want Your Soul’

We live in a society that applauds war crimes but has skepticism towards healthcare. We live in a society that worries about people starving to death, yet lets corporations throw away thousands of pounds a food every day because they weren’t sold on time. We live in a society that is so greatly worried about resource management, yet allows oil companies to rob our environment of both life and resources. We live in a society that hates the idea of abortion yet also hates the idea of giving everyone the basic needs of life.

Me, Myself, and I Don’t Agree With Ben Widdicombe.

We live in a fantastic age for journalism. One where we can pick up fine letter print in the form of a tablet, read news off of cellular devices, and get up-to-date breaking news as irritating little buzzes on our hips. Sometimes the news isn’t that great, though. An article titled “What Happens When Millennials Run the Workplace?” was posted by Ben Widdicombe on the New York Times not too long ago. I have a better title for you, Ben: “What Happens When A Member of Generation X Tries To Write About Millennials?”

Five Empires That Were Close to World Domination

When we think of world domination, we oftentimes think of countries that have strongholds on land mass. How much of the world has been painted with their flag? While this won’t necessarily be the perfect explanation for what the empires stood for or accomplished, it’ll be interesting to see what nations had at least the slightest chance to dominate the world in one form or another. There are thousands of empires to choose from, so I’m going to focus on five of them.

Why "God is Not Dead" Should Be.

The movie “God is Not Dead” is about a stereotypical do-nothing-wrong, goodie-two-shoes Christian student who is forced by an equally stereotypical cold-hearted and mean-spirited atheist to admit that “God is Dead” in a philosophy class. I’ve watched this movie twice — once because I had nothing better to do (Netflix is a wonderful time waster) and once more to actually make sure the morals and meanings of the story were what they presented themselves to be throughout my first experience.

Quick History: The Spread of Prohibition

As America entered the Great War, the temperance movement became much more noticeable. In 1918, Congress passed the 18th Amendment to the Constitution – which completely prohibited all sectors of the trade for alcohol. From manufacturing, transporting, selling, or consuming alcoholic beverages, the states agreed to ratified the amendment within less than a year.
